Last stops in Illinois

Morrison and Fulton.  These are the last stops on the Lincoln before crossing over to Iowa.  Both made a fine impression (and especially Fulton).

The gas station in Fulton is an absolute classic.  Although it is closed now, the same family still owns it and runs a body shop across the street – the fellow in the picture is the son of the last operator of the station.  Love those prices!  The windmill is the real deal:  manufactured and pre-assembled in the Netherlands and then installed by Dutch craftsmen.  As I parked by the windmill a procession of campers pulled up – dozens and dozens; an odd sight (Fulton is right on the Great River Road along the Mississippi and they group was on a drive).

Fulton is also on the Ronald Reagan Trail – the Reagan family plot is in the former Fulton Catholic cemetery, and Reagan’s parents were both born in Fulton and also were married there at the church rectory of Immaculate Conception (also pictured).
