In the black and white set of the high desert churches I mentioned the High Road to Taos from Santa Fe, the routing I chose for the drive to Taos. Weather permitting I would highly recommend this beautiful drive. I took the Low Road (also called the River Road) along the Rio Grande back to Santa Fe and Route 66 which also has beautiful vistas but nothing like the High Road. Some more information on the two routings is here and here.
In this set one sees a few of the churches of the high desert from the black and white post – this time in color.
On the stop in Chimayó I bought some spices from the seller in the picture. I can’t wait to use them back home in Brooklyn next month. This is where the Santuariò de Chimayó (the Shrine of Chimayó) is (mentioned in my post about the high desert churches). This was a fantastic stop. Truly memorable.
The man holding the handmade cross makes those crosses; he walked up to me to show it to me and asked if I would like to take a photo.
Arrival in Taos after a long drive; the Taos Inn (where I stayed) was a welcome sight – it is the only building in Taos allowed to have neon. Today’s factoid!
