On the 1913 route in Livermore.
There are many historic sites in Livermore (and some great places to stop for a bite to eat, too).
The Duarte Garage (1915) served travelers passing through Livermore on the Lincoln Highway. Read about its history here.
The former Southern Pacific Depot on L St. (1892) was saved from demolition and moved from its original location, and there is a project underway to relocate it again – this time to the downtown Livermore Transit Center during 2017.
The handsome former Carnegie Library there (1911) is now a historical museum and art gallery. Independence Hall (Old City Hall) was built in 1875 and started out as a hotel, later became a bank building, and was the Livermore Town Hall from 1905 to 1957. The interior shot is from the historic main Post Office (1939). The Livermore branch of San Francisco’s Bank of Italy opened in 1922 and became Bank of America in 1930; it remained in that building until 1957.
Construction of St. Michael’s Catholic Church was completed in 1918; nearby on Maple St. is the main building of Livermore High School (1930) – go Cowboys!
The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (formerly the University of California Radiation Laboratory) dates back to the early 1950s. I made sure to ask an LLNL security officer for permission to take that photo at the entrance!
