Oakland’s Chinatown dates back to the 1850s. These photos date back, too, but not that far – the entire set is from a walkabout back in 2008.
As the Oakland website says, this is the real deal. It’s just a few blocks away from the original Lincoln Highway route through downtown Oakland.
The line in the title of this post, of course, is from the 1974 film and uttered to Jake Gittes (played by Jack Nicholson) in the L.A. Chinatown.
