1913 route in San Francisco, part one. San Francisco: Lincoln Park to Market on the original route through the Presidio as far as the Marina district along Chestnut.
That is an original concrete marker right at the exit from Lincoln Park at El Camino del Mar.
The Lincoln Highway’s original route left Lincoln Park at El Camino del Mar and then followed Lake Street all the way to Arguello. A left on Arguello (at the magnificent temple, Congregation Emanu-El, 1926) takes us through the Presidio. Exiting the Presidio it followed Chestnut to Van Ness. After a right drivers then took Van Ness to Market, made a left on Market and continued until the Ferry Building for the auto ferry to Oakland.
The Presidio Theatre opened in 1937. It’s a four screener now but still open and showing first run movies.
