Penn walkabout

More Philly. University of Pennsylvania walkabout – on a very cold Sunday morning.

The university was in session but there were not too many students about. It made it easier for the photography but the campus had a bit of a deserted feel to it.

I expect in better weather and during the week it is milling with students and especially along Locust Walk and at the College Green.

Supposedly the area around Penn and Drexel – called University City – has made progress but as I understand it Penn for a long time has had a ranking it probably doesn’t want on the upper part of the danger index for American universities. Anyway, it was my first time at Penn, and I mostly walked around the campus. There are a couple of shots of Penn’s largest dormitory called the Quad; a couple of shots of College Hall, built in 1872, with Ben himself in front; Wharton, on Locust Walk (the main drag within the campus); an older med school building; a gate along Spruce Street; and the Richards Medical Research Laboratories (Louis Kahn, 1960).

A handsome campus. A very photogenic and historic city.
