Back to Philly

Back in Philadelphia, December 2016.

I just got back from a weekend in Philadelphia (arrived Friday afternoon and got back Sunday night). This is a city that is well down the comeback trail and looking so much better than when I used to visit in the past. The weather never really broke through 30F ( a little less that -1C) and it was really cold. I mean, freezing. Thankfully, I finally got some fingerless gloves for the winter photography.

Why Philadelphia in December one might ask? I wanted to see the exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art “Paint the Revolution: Mexican Modernism, 1910–1950” before it closes in a few weeks. It was superb.

This is just a sampling of the pix I got. It is a very photogenic city. They are as follows:

     –first is the Franklin Bridge across the Delaware River from the Race St. Pier in Old Town (looking towards Camden NJ) in the golden hour on my first day (with the wind chill that had to be my coldest moment but it was worth it to get that shot);

     -the second, Independence Hall from the back side, which needs no introduction (European friends and family – this is where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted);

     -the third, the nearby First Bank of the United States building (built 1795-97) – yes, the one proposed and supported by Alexander Hamilton, first Secretary of the Treasury;

     -the fourth, Boathouse Row (in the waning light of the day yesterday) on the bank of the Schuylkill River, just past the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and

     -last, a shot taken on my morning walkabout today looking down South Broad Street from the Academy of Music towards City Hall.

I took a ton of pictures and will try to post some more.
