New Brunswick, NJ.
In late May 2016 on the big Lincoln Highway drive and again in October 2016 on a weekend trip drive from New York (with more time for the stop) I had a chance to walk around the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick.
The first part of the set is all at the university. The stunning stained glass windows are in Kirkpatrick Chapel and were donated as class gifts. There are more.
The balance of the photos were taken elsewhere in New Brunswick – mostly in the downtown with the exception of the last two taken in Baccleuch Park along the Raritan River. The colonial house is Baccleuch Mansion (about 1740) and said to be probably New Brunswick’s finest example of colonial architecture. In the downtown photos the church with the white steeple is the First Reformed Church of New Brunswick (1775).
The central city is not as elegant as Princeton and can be a bit scruffy in parts. Much of the historic center has been lost to office buildings and other redevelopment — it is a real architectural mishmosh. Still, there are some very historic surviving buildings here and there.
