She still holds the “Blue Riband” as the fastest passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service in either direction. She had the most powerful steam turbines of any merchant marine vessel ever. She was withdrawn from service in 1969.
The SS United States Conservancy assumed ownership of the United States on February 1, 2011. Her future remains unclear. For more information on this iconic ship and her future go here.
