Along the Deep River in Hobart, Indiana

Heading west on the Lincoln Highway in Indiana.

Between Valparaiso and Schererville the Old Lincoln Highway veers off from US 30 and crosses the Deep River in Hobart where I did a stop at the 19th century Wood’s Grist Mill.  It is gems like this park that make the drive along the Lincoln so special.

Besides the remains of the grist mill there’s a lovely old church and a small maple syrup operation on site. Numerous times I have done stops like this one after seeing  one of those ubiquitous historic markers, often to be so very pleasantly surprised as I was that on that late afternoon when I stopped to stretch my legs and do a short walk in the county park in Hobart.
