Lincoln Highway Road Trip, day 2.
The April Newark pix, as promised, part one.
I made it as far as Princeton yesterday with a number of stops on the way. New Jersey can be a really mixed bag – there are some very beautiful places and lovely cities and towns (I am in one of them now) and then there are some really challenged places. I started the trip in a city called Elizabeth (on the former Lincoln Highway) – other than one brief stop by the water, I skipped it. Too dodgy. Not a very nice place at all. It got better when I hit Rahway – more later when I download some day one pictures.
In the meantime, here are the Newark pictures; there are many more which I need to work on – spent the better part of a day walking around (carefully). The Lincoln Highway went right through the center of Newark on city streets. Here you will see some shots of the many surviving historic buildings – the courthouse is a beauty. In front of it is our next Lincoln, called the “Seated Lincoln”, a sculpture by Gutzon Borglum (of Mount Rushmore fame). The spanking new building is the recently opened Prudential office tower.
